Section 2: Equipment
Per Section 1.2 of the WFTDA rules, "Skaters must wear quad-style roller skates and protective gear during play." Inline skates are not permitted; only quad-style roller skates satisfy the equipment requirement.
Required protective gear consists of a helmet, mouthguard, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads, provided the item offers the skater additional protection and the skater is physically able to wear it. A skater is not penalized if a specific piece of equipment does not provide additional protection given their body or medical circumstances. Protective gear may not be removed during play, and no piece of equipment may impair the safety of other participants or the flow of the game.
A skater sent to the Penalty Box must replace their mouthguard before leaving the box to re-enter play, reflecting the rule's emphasis on maintaining full protective coverage at all times a skater is active on the track.
Every skater must also be uniquely identified by a roster number for the duration of the game, which officials and scorekeepers rely on throughout to track penalties, scoring passes, and lineups.
