Section 7: Violations & Penalties
Fair play is essential in Marbles. Players are expected to follow the rules and respect their opponents. Violations can result in penalties or loss of turns.
Foul Play
- Wrong Marble: If a player uses the wrong marble during their turn (e.g., hitting with an opponent's marble or using a spare), they are penalized. They must return the correct marble to their rack and lose their turn.
- Cheating: Intentionally hiding marbles, faking a hit (claiming to have made contact when you didn't), or tampering with the playing area are considered cheating. If caught, the player may be disqualified from the game.
- Fouling: If a player's marble hits the ground or goes out of bounds before hitting an opponent's marble, it is a foul. The player must return to their starting position and lose their turn.
Penalties
The most common penalty is the loss of a turn. If a player commits a foul, they must return their marble to its original position and the opponent takes over. In severe cases of cheating, a player may be removed from the game entirely.
