Section 3: Playing Area
The playing area for Marbles is flexible and can be adapted to almost any flat surface. However, certain conditions are recommended for fair play.
Surface Requirements
- Flat and Level: The ground must be as flat as possible. Uneven surfaces can cause marbles to roll unpredictably, giving an unfair advantage to players on the downhill side.
- Firmness: The surface should be firm enough to allow the marble to roll or bounce without excessive friction. Hard surfaces like concrete, asphalt, or wood are ideal for Ring Toss and English Marbles.
- Cleanliness: The area should be free of debris, stones, or other objects that could interfere with the roll or cause damage to the marbles.
The Ring (Target)
In Ring Toss, a target ring is required. This can be drawn on the ground using chalk or a marker. The standard size for a ring is approximately 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, though this can vary for children's games. The ring should be clearly visible to all players.
