Section 7: Violations & Penalties
Since there are no referees, players must police themselves. Violations can lead to disqualification from the current round.
Duck Violations
- Standing Up: If a player tagged as "Duck" stands up, they are immediately out of the game for that round. They must sit back down and stay seated until their turn comes again.
- Breaking the Chain: Players must hold hands or link pinkies. If a player lets go, they are out.
- Talking: Ducks must remain silent. If a Duck speaks, they are out.
- Blocking: Ducks cannot stand up to block the Chaser. They must stay seated.
Chaser Violations
- Tapping the Wrong Person: The Chaser must tap a player who is currently in the circle. Tapping someone already outside (a previous Goose) results in a penalty.
- Tapping Twice: The Chaser must tap each player only once per round. Tapping the same person twice is a violation.
- Entering the Circle: The Chaser must stay outside the circle. If they jump in or sit down, they are out.
- Taking Too Long: If the Chaser takes too long to complete their lap (e.g., more than 10 seconds), they may be forced to switch roles.
Penalties
If a violation occurs, the offending player is out of the current round. In some variations, they must sit on a chair outside the circle for the next round before rejoining.
