Section 8: Safety Considerations
Duck Duck Goose is generally safe, but head tapping and chasing can pose risks if not played carefully.
Head Tapping
- Gentle Touch: The Chaser should tap the head lightly. Hitting or slapping is dangerous and can cause injury.
- Consent: Players should agree to the head tapping mechanic before starting. If a player is uncomfortable, they can opt out of that specific variation.
- Head Protection: If playing in a rough environment, players might consider wearing soft hats or beanies to protect their heads.
Chasing
- Clear Space: Ensure the area is clear of obstacles. Players running around a circle can trip over furniture or uneven ground.
- No Rough Play: The Goose should not tackle or trip the Chaser. Use speed and agility, not physical contact.
- Age Appropriateness: This game is best for children and adults. It may be too rough or confusing for very young toddlers.
Hygiene
If playing with a large group, ensure players are clean and not sick to prevent spreading germs through hand-holding or close proximity.
