Section 6: Scoring
Traditional casual Twister does not require numerical scoring. A round is won by the last player who remains on the mat without committing an eliminating violation. If the last two players lose balance at effectively the same time and no clear survivor can be identified, the round is a tie or may be replayed.
Match formats
- Single round: The winner of one round wins the game.
- Best-of-three: The first player to win two rounds wins the match.
- Point series: Award one point for each round victory. After an agreed number of rounds, the highest total wins.
- Placement scoring: In a group event, award points by finishing order, such as three points for first, two for second, and one for third.
- Endurance scoring: Record the number of successfully completed calls or the elapsed time before elimination. This works well for separate heats.
Team scoring
In team play, a round victory belongs to the team with at least one legal player remaining after every opposing team has been eliminated. For a stricter variation, eliminate an entire team as soon as either partner falls. The chosen method must be declared before play.
Tiebreakers
Tied players or teams may play one additional round. For a quicker tiebreaker, begin from standard starting positions and count completed calls; the participant completing more calls wins. Do not use increasingly fast calls as a tiebreaker if doing so would make play unsafe.
