Section 2: Equipment
Required equipment
- Mat: One Twister-style mat containing four rows of six large colored circles. The traditional layout uses one row each of red, blue, yellow, and green circles, for a total of 24 circles.
- Game board: One spinner board divided into left hand, right hand, left foot, and right foot areas, with red, blue, yellow, and green color results in each area. A freely rotating pointer selects the calls.
The mat must be complete enough that every color and circle can be identified easily. It should lie flat, remain reasonably stationary, and contain no tears, folds, wet patches, or raised edges that could cause a player to slip or trip.
The spinner pointer must rotate without being steered and must come to rest on a readable combination. If a pointer lands exactly on a boundary, fails to rotate properly, or produces an unclear result, the caller spins again without applying the disputed call.
Clothing and personal items
No special uniform or protective equipment is required. Players should remove shoes unless the group has a safe reason to keep suitable footwear on. Socks may be slippery, so bare feet or clean, non-slip footwear are commonly preferred. Jewelry, watches, keys, and sharp or bulky pocket contents should be removed before play.
Homemade sets
A homemade set may be used if it preserves the essential design: four distinguishable colors, six circles of each color, and a fair random method matching each of the four limbs with each color. All circles should be large enough for a hand or foot and spaced consistently enough to make movement challenging but reasonable.
