Section 4: Players & Officials
A standard game works best with two to four active players and one caller. Larger groups should divide into heats or teams so the mat does not become dangerously crowded.
Players
Players are responsible for following each call, keeping only their hands and feet in legal contact with the mat, and avoiding deliberate contact with opponents. Each player should honestly acknowledge a fall, illegal touch, missed call, or inability to move.
Caller
The caller operates the spinner, announces each result clearly, watches for completion of the move, and resolves routine questions. The caller should stand outside the safety zone and should not favor a player by changing the strength of spins or delaying calls selectively.
A call should identify the side, limb, and color in a consistent order, such as “left foot, green.” The caller waits until all active players have completed the instruction and are reasonably steady before spinning again.
Playing without a separate caller
In a two-player game without a caller, the players may alternate spinning before returning to position. A player who spins may temporarily lift one hand to operate the pointer only after both players agree that it is safe; this temporary movement does not count as a game move. Alternatively, a non-player can call results.
Disputes
The caller’s neutral observation decides ordinary recreational disputes. If the caller could not see the action, replay the spin rather than guessing. Players should settle questions quickly and prioritize safety and enjoyment over a technical advantage.
