What are the players/officials in KanJam?

Team size: KanJam is played by two teams of two players each (four players total). Larger groups commonly rotate players in and out between games or organize a round-robin bracket.
Player roles: On any given throw, one player from each team acts as the "Thrower" and their partner, stationed at the target can, acts as the "Deflector" (sometimes called the "Catcher" or "Goalie"). Roles alternate between partners throughout the game (see Section 5, Rotation).
Starting order: Teams determine which team throws first by mutual agreement, a coin flip, or a disc flip (spin the disc; whichever team calls the correct side it lands on throws first).
Officials: KanJam is self-officiated in nearly all recreational and tournament settings. Players call their own violations and agree on ambiguous scoring calls; casual house-league or bar/backyard tournaments may designate one neutral scorekeeper to track points and settle disputes.
Substitutions: In casual "winner stays" or rotating-partner formats, substitutions may occur between games but not mid-game, to preserve fair alternating throws.
