Section 4: Players & Officials
Tetherball can be played in two main formats: singles or doubles. The number of players determines the rules for serving and scoring.
Singles
In singles, there are two players on the court. Each player stands on opposite sides of the pole. The game is played one-on-one, with each player trying to wrap the rope around the pole before their opponent does.
Doubles
In doubles, there are four players on the court. Two players stand together on one side of the pole, and two players stand together on the opposite side. They work as a team to hit the ball and wrap the rope around the pole.
Officials
While casual play often goes without referees, it is highly recommended to have an official for organized matches. The referee's role is to ensure players stay within the court boundaries, call fouls, and keep track of the number of wraps around the pole. The referee should be positioned near the center of the court or behind one side to get a good view of both players.
