Section 7: Violations & Penalties
Fair play is essential in Double Dutch. Violations can disrupt the game and affect scoring. The following are common violations and how they should be handled.
Falling Out
- Description: A jumper falls out of the ropes or gets tangled and cannot continue.
- Penalty: The current trick sequence ends. Jumpers must reset and start a new trick or wait for the ropes to be cleared.
- Note: Falling out does not disqualify the jumper from future turns, but they cannot count towards the current trick score.
Hitting Others
- Description: A turner or jumper accidentally hits another player with the rope.
- Penalty: The game stops immediately. Players must reset positions and restart the turn.
- Note: Intentional hitting is a serious violation and may result in disqualification.
Tripping Ropes
- Description: A turner trips over their own rope or the other rope, causing a loss of rhythm.
- Penalty: The turner must stop swinging. Jumpers may continue if they are already in the air, but cannot jump until ropes are turned again.
Refusal to Turn
- Description: A turner refuses to continue turning the rope when asked.
- Penalty: The turner is removed from the game. A replacement turner must be chosen.
