Section 4: Players & Officials
Double Dutch is typically played by a group of players, divided into turners and jumpers. There are no formal officials required for casual play, but a designated "Caller" can help manage the game flow.
Turners
- Minimum: Two players are required to start the game. Each player holds one rope.
- Role: Turners stand at opposite ends of the ropes and swing them in a circular motion. One turner swings clockwise, while the other swings counter-clockwise.
- Responsibility: Turners must maintain a steady rhythm and ensure the ropes cross properly to create the Double Dutch pattern.
Jumpers
The number of jumpers is flexible and can range from one to several players, depending on the space available. Jumpers stand inside or outside the ropes and perform various jumping maneuvers.
Officials (Optional)
- Caller: In larger groups or organized leagues, a Caller may be appointed. The Caller announces the names of jumpers and calls out trick sequences to keep track of who is jumping.
- Referee: In competitive leagues, a referee oversees the game to ensure rules are followed and adjudicates disputes regarding violations.
