Section 6: Scoring
Scoring in Double Dutch varies depending on whether the game is casual or competitive. In casual play, players often count tricks to see who can do the most in a set time.
Casual Scoring
- Trick Count: Players count the number of successful tricks performed. A "trick" is defined as a specific jump pattern (e.g., one swing, two swings, a cross).
- Time Trial: Players or teams jump for a set time (e.g., 1 minute) and count how many tricks they complete. The team with the highest count wins.
Competitive Scoring
In organized leagues, scoring is often based on a list of approved tricks. Each trick has a point value.
- Basic Points: Simple jumps like "Swing" or "Cross" might be worth 1 point each.
- Advanced Points: Complex tricks like "Dutch Swing" or "Double Dutch Swing" might be worth more points (e.g., 5-10 points).
- Team Score: The total score of all jumpers on a team is summed up. The team with the highest total score wins.
Points are awarded only for completed tricks. If a jumper falls or gets tangled, the trick is not counted.
