Section 5: Rules of Play
Standard Match
- The standard WCT8 match consists of 16 chases.
- Each chase lasts no more than 20 seconds.
- A successful tag ends the chase; an Evader who remains untagged for the full time records an evasion.
- Match-start roles are selected by a one-round Rock-Paper-Scissors decision. The winning team chooses whether to chase or evade first.
- In a tied match, Sudden Death role choice belongs to the team that did not win the match-start role selection.
Boundary and Tag Clarifications
- An airborne athlete remains in play until first contacting an out-of-bounds surface.
- If athletes exit simultaneously, the one who touches the ground last wins the chase; an indistinguishable result is replayed.
- A tag made before the Chaser subsequently exits the Quad remains valid.
Experimental Extended Format
WCT8 permits designated matches to trial an extended format alongside the standard 16-chase match. An extended-format squad may field up to eight athletes; WCT may consider it for wider adoption from WCT9.
