Section 6: Scoring
6.1 Placement-Based Advancement
Rule 297, paragraph 1 orders the Skaters/Relay Teams at the end of each race: first all who finished the race, in order of finishing; then those who Did Not Finish (DNF); then those who received a Penalty (PEN); then those who Did Not Start (DNS). Advancement through rounds is governed by this finishing order together with the Qualification tables described in Rule 291, paragraph 8.
6.2 Final and Final B
Rule 291, paragraph 8.d) confirms that at ISU Events, the round of Finals always includes two races: the Final, which determines the winner of the distance, and the Final B, which determines the further ranks. Where only one Skater or Relay Team qualifies for a Final B, that race is not skated and the qualified Skater/Team is assigned the corresponding rank and points (Rule 291, paragraph 8.j).
6.3 Relay Scoring
Relay results follow the same Rule 297, paragraph 1 ordering (finish order, then DNF, then PEN, then DNS) applied to Teams. A Skater/Relay Team that received a Red Card in a Relay is not ranked in the final Relay classification for that race, though results of other Relay events in the Competition are unaffected (Rule 296, paragraph 1.i).
6.4 Tiebreaking
Rule 297, paragraph 2.j) provides that in the case of equal times over a distance, or where no time is available, a draw is used to establish the order between the Skaters/Relay Teams involved.
