Section 4: Players & Officials
A team consists of not more than thirteen players on the field at any time (Section 4). Terms used throughout the Laws, including the roles referred to in play, are defined in the Glossary (Section 2).
Interchange is limited: a maximum of eight interchanges is allowed from the bench during a match (Section 4).
A match is controlled by a referee, assisted by touch judges, whose appointment, powers and duties are set out in Section 16. The signals a referee uses to indicate a decision are illustrated in Section 17 (Section 16).
