Making a tag
Why People Get This Wrong
People often think that making a tag in Marco Polo means you can grab clothing or push your opponent to get them tagged, but actually, the official rule strictly prohibits grabbing anything other than an open hand touch on exposed body parts like arms and shoulders. The confusion arises because players sometimes overlook the detail about not using pushing or pulling as part of the tagging process.
Official Verdict
A tag is a light touch with an open hand to another player’s arm, shoulder, back, or torso. Do not tag the head or neck, grab clothing, hold a person, push, or pull.
