Section 8: Safety Considerations
Standard tabletop Jenga is low risk when played carefully, but falling blocks can strike faces, hands, feet, drinks, or fragile objects. Set up the game where a collapse has room to spread without causing injury or damage.
Safe Setup and Play
- Use a stable surface at a comfortable height and test it for wobble before building.
- Keep faces away from the tower, especially when inspecting lower layers.
- Do not place fingers beneath a leaning tower or attempt to catch a collapse.
- Let falling blocks land, then collect them after all movement stops.
- Keep food, drinks, glassware, electronics, candles, and sharp objects outside the fall area.
- Inspect wooden blocks for splinters and retire damaged pieces.
- Supervise young children and keep small blocks away from anyone likely to place them in the mouth.
Oversized and Outdoor Sets
Giant sets require extra precautions because their blocks may be heavy and can fall from greater height. Build them no higher than the manufacturer's intended limit, keep spectators beyond the likely fall zone, and never construct the tower above a player's safe reach. Closed-toe footwear is advisable for oversized play, though it is not required for the standard tabletop game.
Stop outdoor play during strong wind, rain, lightning, or whenever the supporting ground becomes uneven or slippery. Do not throw blocks, climb on the tower, or use blocks as stools, steps, or striking objects.
Accessibility
Players may agree to seated play, extended turn time, assistance positioning a chair, or another reasonable modification. Any helper should assist with access rather than selecting or moving the block unless the group has explicitly adopted cooperative play.
