Section 8: Safety Considerations
Why People Get This Wrong
People often assume that players can use their arms to block opponents effectively, thinking it's a loophole for tackling. However, the official verdict clarifies that only shoulder-to-shoulder charges are legal in Gaelic Football, and they must be directed at the torso of an opponent who is playing or has possession of the ball, thus sidestepping any misunderstanding about arm usage.
Official Verdict
Legal contact. The only form of body contact permitted between opponents is the shoulder-to-shoulder charge, directed at the torso of a player who is playing, or is in a position to play, the ball.
