Field of play. The pitch is rectangular, with a length of not less than 130 metres and not more than 145 metres, and a width of not less than 80 metres and not more than 90 metres, as set out in Rule 1.1 (The Field of Play).
Team composition. A team consists of fifteen players: a goalkeeper and fourteen outfield players (Rule 2.1, The Players).
Duration. A senior inter-county adult game lasts 70 minutes, played in two halves of 35 minutes.
Goal. A goal, scored when the ball passes over the goal line, under the crossbar, and between the goalposts, is worth three points (Rule 3.1).
Technical fouls. Minor infractions of the playing rules - such as an over-carry (exceeding the permitted four steps), a double bounce, an unfair pick-up of the ball from the ground, or a "square ball" offense in the small rectangle - are penalised...
Legal contact. The only form of body contact permitted between opponents is the shoulder-to-shoulder charge, directed at the torso of a player who is playing, or is in a position to play, the ball.
