Section 6: Scoring
Winning a Round
The first team whose final player completes a legal flip wins the round and earns one point. There are no partial points for individual cups, faster intermediate legs, or a lead that existed before the final legal landing.
Winning a Match
Before play, teams choose one of the following common match formats:
- Single round: One round determines the winner.
- Best of three: The first team to win two rounds wins the match.
- Best of five: The first team to win three rounds wins the match.
- Race to a target: The first team to reach an agreed number of round wins takes the match.
- Timed session: Teams play until an agreed time expires, and the team with more completed round wins is the winner.
Tied Matches
If a timed match ends level, the teams may declare a draw or play one full deciding round. A shorter tiebreaker may use one nominated player per team, each with an equal serving and one cup. The first legal completion wins.
Recordkeeping
A scorekeeper may record only completed rounds. A round replayed because of simultaneous finishes, external interference, or unsafe conditions does not count. Teams should alternate table sides between rounds when lighting, surface condition, or surrounding space creates a noticeable advantage.
