Section 3: Playing Area
Table Layout
The two teams form parallel lines along opposite long sides of the same table. Players on each team stand shoulder to shoulder in their declared relay order. The first players should be positioned at the same end of the table, with each subsequent pair aligned as evenly as practical.
Each cup begins upright directly in front of its player and far enough from the edge to avoid accidental falls. A clear strip of tabletop must remain between the cup positions and the edge used for flipping.
Flipping Zone
When attempting a flip, the active player places the empty cup upright near the edge so that part of its base projects beyond the tabletop. The player strikes or lifts the exposed base with the fingers, causing the cup to rotate toward the table. The cup must finish supported by the tabletop and resting upside down.
A cup that lands on the floor, on another cup, in a player's hand, or upright does not complete the leg. A cup hanging over the edge is valid only if it has stopped moving, is inverted, and remains supported without being held.
Clearance and Spectators
The playing area should provide at least an arm's length of clear space behind each team where practical. Spectators, bags, cords, chairs, and breakable objects must be kept away from players and from places where missed cups are likely to fall.
Alternative Layouts
When a long table is unavailable, teams may use opposite ends or separate equal tables, provided the surfaces are comparable and every player has a safe flipping edge. The layout must be announced before the round and must not give either team a material advantage.
