Old Maid is a simple matching game in which players discard pairs and draw hidden cards from one another. Every card can eventually be paired except one unmatched card, traditionally called the Old Maid. Players try to empty their hands without being left holding that card.
Whatever variation is chosen, preserve the core structure: ordinary cards form pairs, exactly one card has no partner, players draw without seeing card faces, and the person holding the unmatched card at the end receives the loss or agreed penalty.
Select the first dealer by agreement or at random. For a series of rounds, the deal may pass clockwise after each round so every player has an equal opportunity to deal.
Single Joker: Use a standard fifty-two-card deck plus one joker. Before drawing begins, every player removes all valid pairs already present in their hand. Each pair is placed face up where everyone can verify that the two cards match.
For elimination play, a player who accumulates an agreed number of penalties—commonly three—is removed from the series. Continue playing rounds among the remaining participants until only one player remains.
Turns continue until every matching pair has been discarded. At that point, one player will hold the sole unmatched card.

Silent Play: Players may not comment on the location or identity of any card while a choice is being made.; One Shuffle of the Hand: Before offering cards, a player mixes their hand once and then keeps the fan still until a card is selected.; Penalty Score: The Old Maid holder receives two points...
If the active player has cards but the next seated player does not, the active player draws from the next eligible hand beyond that player. If only one player has cards remaining, no further draw is possible and the round ends.
