Section 8: Safety Considerations
Karate Combat is full-contact stand-up combat with KO/concussion risk comparable to professional kickboxing. Mandatory pre-fight medical screening (neurological, cardiac, ophthalmological, MRI for major fights), a ringside physician with stoppage authority, on-site EMT and ambulance, and an AED in the arena are all standard. Post-fight medical assessment is mandatory. KOs trigger automatic medical suspension (minimum 30-day rest, longer for severe KOs, with neurological clearance required to return). State athletic commission oversight applies at events held in commission-regulated jurisdictions. The Pit floor is padded, and its slanted walls absorb falls more safely than a vertical cage. Concussion protocol includes SCAT-5 assessment and a medical-clearance requirement before return to competition.
