Section 5: Scoring & Winning
Standard Hand Scores
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Makers win three or four tricks | 1 point to the makers |
| Makers win all five tricks with both partners active | 2 points to the makers |
| Defenders win three or more tricks, euchring the makers | 2 points to the defenders |
| Lone maker wins three or four tricks | 1 point to the maker's team |
| Lone maker wins all five tricks | 4 points to the maker's team |
| Defenders euchre a lone maker | 2 points to the defenders |
A lone maker earns the four-point bonus only by winning all five tricks. Winning three or four tricks is worth one point, just as it is for a partnership that makes its bid without a sweep. A team cannot combine multiple scoring rows from the same hand.
Keeping Score
Any clear running record may be used. A traditional method uses spare cards that are not part of the active 24-card deck: one scoring card covers or uncovers suit symbols on another to display the total. Players may instead track the score verbally or with any mutually understood method. Announce and confirm the score after each hand.
Winning the Game
The first team to reach at least 10 points wins immediately after the hand is scored. The winners do not need a two-point margin, and a team may win with any scoring result, including a euchre of the opponents. For a longer match, play an agreed best-of-three or best-of-five series of games, beginning each new game with a fresh selection of the first dealer.
Ties and Disputed Scores
A game cannot end tied because only one team scores on a hand. If the recorded total is disputed, reconstruct it from the hands already scored and any visible scoring record. When reconstruction is impossible, use the last score on which all players agree and continue from there. Good practice is to have both teams acknowledge every scoring change before the next deal.
